Wind Power Project Description

        The project has been started by PT. Bumi Energi Equatorial since 2003. The windmill is named EGRA. This project is conducting a research to provide an alternative and sample of technology for using wind energy potential for the rural people. The research conducts in two different areas: development and research for windmill for water pumping. This windmill provide people especially farmer with simple and affordable technology for water irrigation. With this technology farmer could receive direct benefit with reducing cost for providing water for daily used and land irrigation.

        A further research is to develop windmill for electricity. This research is to develop windmill which suitable and right in Indonesia. First development is to build 1000 Watt electric windmill and first windmill installed in Indramayu West Java. Next project is to develop 10 KVA windmill for small villages and small islands.

The project consists of several stages:

1. Wind potential research
   
   The stage that consists of a research and investigate about the wind potential using in method and measure wind speed and direction as well as chart eristic in some area in West Java. This research could knows and collect the data for the further project. This stage is important to have some knowledge about wind energy in West Java. Some area is already studies in 2003 to 2005 such as Indramayu and Cirebon. A result of this research is surprising that wind energy in Indonesia is promising and available.
   


2. Innovation Engineering
   
   This stage is developing the innovation about windmill design and technique. In this process is to ensure that the windmill design such as blade, mechanical, pumping and others are suitable and affordable to use in Indonesia. This stage starts from with set up the management, design, or revision of the new design to commissioning test. In 2003 to 2005 PT. Bumi Energi Equatorial has successful to try and develop windmill water pumping with capacity of 3 liter/stroke. For the electric windmill PT. Bumi Energi Equatorial has successful to develop windmill for electricity from 1000 Watt until 5000 watt. In this stage, it also considers that the design and material have to be widely available in local (Indonesian local content). The design also simple and easy to be maintained. With simple in design and widely availability of the material, the cost could be reducing to make users or people could afford.
   


3. Socialized
   
   The stage consists of presentation, seminar and workshop to introduce of wind energy in Indonesia. This stage has been starting since 2003 with several presentations to stakeholders, conduct a workshop, and seminar to introduce and socializes the wind energy: available, potential and use. This stage also includes training among the various users.
